|Whakakiteana ia Ratou ~ (Discovering them)|
"A Point of View"
I have used the same background in this painting
as portrayed by the artist in the lithograph.
My painting depicts signatories signing the
Treaty of Waitangi with the missionary and the
governor portrayed at the table. They are the
present representatives that would be there
today. They each represent the conflicting values
that have not changed since the 1840's. I have
used the comparison to illustrate the
misrepresentation by both the artist and the
crown representative of the time. I believe that
all parties except for Shortland believed that the
Treaty was beneficial for all people.
