      Of the Native Forest that once grew to near
    Cape Reinga now little remains. Lost to time and
  climatic change, the bush has retreated to the edge
  of the original landmass to stand as a sentinel looking
   north over the Aupouri Peninsula on which it once
  flourished. From Puketi forest in the east, the bush
   stretches along the Maungataniwha Ranges to Ratea
   and the Herekino forest in the west. Although logged
   for its kauri in the early 1900's this stand of forest
     still remains an insight into what much of the
